Happy Valentine’s day. This Valentine’s day I chose the Calla Lily, because of its symbolism and shape. I got a little fanciful with the colors, but that’s what artists do. Here’s what ehow says:
Like most flowers, the calla lily has a symbolic meaning. It is, ironically, associated with both weddings and funerals. The calla lily is symbolic of marriage and purity because of its white color and its trumpet-like shape, similar to a woman’s shape. It is also the symbol of rebirth and resurrection.
I chose to paint this flower before I read the meaning but it certainly fits for this year. Happy St Valentine’s Day! Each of these 5×7″ paintings are for sale for $50.00 each. All proceeds go to animal conservation charities.

Dear Mimi, I so like to learn what is the symbolism of flowers and other natural things. Thank you. Peace.
These are not my favourite flowers but you have made them look lovely in your paintings.
Love them: calla lilies and your watercolors of them.
Just lovely!
