Bobcats, nocturnal hunters, can be found in almost every state of the union, but most people have never seen one, except maybe in a zoo. They inhabit the borderlands, hunting small prey like mice, squirrels, possums and rabbits. Unlike the Lynx, the other small North American wild cat, which will only hunt rabbit, the bobcat will eat almost anything which helps ensure its survival. They are a strikingly beautiful animal, but like most other wild cats, they are extremely misunderstood.
The bobcat is not an animal to be feared, experts guess there are a million of them in the USA, they are very skittish and like to chase small things not huge towering creatures like humans.
This is a 4″ x 6″ watercolor painting I did to help a kickstarter project,
The California Bay Area Bobcat Connectivity Project If you buy this painting, I will donate the money to this project.
This painting is for sale, $60.00 all proceeds go to benefit wildcats.

The paper I use the most is Arches cold press. Thanks for your kind words. This is the first time any one ever called one of my paintings a “shot” but I’ll take it!! 🙂
that is a great shot…and thanks for the compliments on my site.:)
what kind of paper do you use… I like the texture.

You capture their essence so well.
I remember as a young child being in the car at night coming home down a dirt road and seeing a bobcat emerge from the dark in the air from one side of the car’s headlights, hit the center of the road (good Dad was going slow) and disappearing into the dark on the otherside. I’ll never forget it. Not soon after that, there were bounties put on the cats from the state and haven’t seen (or heard) about any since.
Dear Mimi, as a cat lover, I so appreciated your painting. I’d love to buy it now but I’m saving all my money for the move back to Minnesota where housing is more expensive than here in Missouri. But I’ll remember your work and this particular painting and one of these days, I’ll treat myself. You are such a fine artist. Peace.
